weeks later we git the letter from PurCo stating that we damaged the car and they want $600. I'm an experienced mechanic so I knew there was no danger in continuing to drive the car - so we completed our weeklong trip (Loved South Dakota by the way!) and returned the car. Having read this forum and knowing they're running a scam, there was no sense in trying to return the car and arguing with them, they'd try to pin it on us anyway. The next day I noticed there was something hanging down underneath the car, a further look showed the splash shield was torn and hanging off, and the bottom of the car was scratched and muddy - clearly this car had been bottomed out int he dirt before we picked it up - the scratches had already begun to rust. We inspected the car well, took pictures and drove the 2-3 miles to our hotel for the night. 11:30 PM, had to rent at the airport since the in-town agencies all close by 6 pm. We arrived on the last flight of the day. I had a similar problem with RC Hertz and their partners in crime "PurCo" services.
